Trump Praises Relationship With Kim Jong Un
TRUMP ON KIM JONG UN: “I UNDERSTAND HIM. HE UNDERSTANDS ME.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again highlighted his personal relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, describing the two as having a strong understanding despite years of tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.
“Kim Jong Un has always treated me with great respect. We spent time. I understand him. He understands me,” Trump said.
The U.S. president added that Kim had not been fond of many people, but maintained that he had developed a particularly good relationship with the North Korean leader.
Trump’s comments underscore his long-standing belief that personal diplomacy and direct engagement can help reduce tensions with Pyongyang.
The two leaders held several historic meetings during Trump’s first presidency, including summits in Singapore and Hanoi, as well as a meeting at the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
Trump has repeatedly indicated that he remains open to renewed communication with Kim, even as North Korea continues to expand its missile and military capabilities.
Trump’s latest remarks suggest that his personal channel with Kim Jong Un could once again become an important element of U.S. policy toward North Korea.
