PRESIDENT ELECT HICHILEMA CALLS FOR PEACE, UNITY, RESPONSIBLE CELEBRATION
Today, President-elect Hakainde Hichilema called on Zambians to respect the outcome of the 2026 General Elections and uphold peace, unity and national cohesion, as democracy requires citizens to resolve differences in a civilised manner.
The highlights:
✅Zambians were called on to respect the election outcome and uphold peace, unity, and national cohesion, stressing that democratic differences should be resolved in a civilised manner.
✅Every Zambian, regardless of their vote, remains an equal citizen and should be treated fairly and without discrimination.
✅Elected leaders have a responsibility to serve all citizens fairly and equitably.
✅Thanked Zambians for entrusting him and his team with another five-year mandate, describing the decision as a serious demonstration of confidence that will not be taken for granted
✅Indicated that the government will continue implementing measures aimed at improving citizens’ welfare, including free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), social protection and skills training.
✅Further stated that free education has enabled about 2.6 million children to return to school and described education as an important investment and equaliser.
✅Noted that debt restructuring has created fiscal space for the government to increase spending on social and development programmes, including education and CDF.
✅Emphasised was placed on the next five years and will focus on economic growth through increased investment across various sectors to create more jobs, expand business opportunities and generate government revenue while strengthening measures to reduce the cost of living.
✅Government listened to concerns raised by citizens across the 10 provinces, 116 districts, 226 constituencies and 1,858 wards during the campaign period and will continue responding to their priorities.
✅Citizens urged to embrace hard work and production, stressing that Zambia should become a country of producers.
✅Productivity extends beyond agriculture and include teachers, health workers, factory workers and other professions, while urging workers to take their responsibilities seriously and use resources efficiently.
✅Zambians urged to celebrate responsibly and respect those with different political views, cautioning against provocation, violence and destruction of property.
✅Strongly condemned militia-type activities and violence in political processes, saying such conduct has no place in Zambia.
✅Peace, security and stability remain essential for development and economic opportunity.
✅Citizens assured of Government’s protection to defend the country’s peace, uphold the Constitution and safeguard democracy, while emphasising that differences in opinion should never degenerate into physical confrontation or infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.
✅Encouraged young people to remain hopeful and make use of available opportunities, assuring them of continued government support.
✅Emphasis that national interest must come before personal interests for those entrusted with public office and called on elected leaders, including Members of Parliament and councillors, to serve citizens with humility, diligence, truthfulness and hard work.
✅Reiterated that Zambia belongs to all its citizens and called for continued unity and solidarity in addressing the challenges facing the country.
