FOLLOWING the intensely contested August 13, 2026 general elections, Jack Mwiimbu has solidified his position as the ultimate anchor of Zambian legislative governance.
Securing a historic landslide victory of 21,135 votes in the newly created Monze East Constituency, Mr Mwiimbu returns to the National Assembly not just as a surviving incumbent, but as the longest-serving parliamentarian in modern Zambia.
As the ruling UPND celebrates the re-election of President Hakainde Hichilema, the focus shifts to the floor of the House.
A wave of political newcomers is entering Parliament after a cycle defined by redrawn electoral boundaries and high turnover.
For this fresh influx of lawmakers, Mr Mwiimbu’s presence represents a rare, vital repository of Constitutional and procedural mastery.
Mr Mwiimbu’s journey is rooted in continuity. A lawyer by profession, he first walked into the legislative chambers in 2001.
He spent the subsequent 25 years fiercely representing the people of Monze Central and mastering Parliamentary mechanics as the acting Leader of Government Business in the House.
His transition to Monze East during this cycle was a calculated political pivot.
Facing local calls that he had ‘overstayed’ his welcome in his original seat, Mr Mwiimbu opted to test his mandate in a freshly delimited district.
His overwhelming victory proved that his brand of veteran statesmanship still carries immense weight with voters.
