National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile has called for an independent, transparent and credible investigation into the death of former Lunte Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya.

In a statement, Mr Mundubile has described Mr Kafwaya as his friend, brother and colleague, and conveyed his condolences to his wife, children and the wider family.

He said Mr Kafwaya served as Member of Parliament for Lunte from 2016 to 2021 and also served in Cabinet as Minister of Works and Supply and later as Minister of Transport and Communications.

Mr Mundubile, however, questioned the circumstances surrounding Mr Kafwaya’s death, particularly the delay in officially confirming his identity.

He said the Central Joint Operations Committee, Service Chiefs and other security authorities took five days to confirm Mr Kafwaya’s death, despite repeated inquiries from his family, colleagues, lawyers and other concerned Zambians.

Last night, Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba confirmed that Mr Kafwaya was the unidentified man who was fatally wounded during an intelligence-led joint operation in Kabulonga on August 14, 2026.

And Citizens First President Harry Kalaba has called for the matter to be reported to the International Criminal Court, stating that international institutions should provide support to the family in its pursuit of justice.

In a Facebook post monitored by Hot FM, Mr Kalaba has further urged regional and international bodies to take an interest in the case and support efforts aimed at transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law.

Meanwhile, Zambians have taken to social media to extend their condolences following the death of Mr Kafwaya.
