…Police chief warns against harbouring the two as international agencies confirm safe passage guarantees

THE Zambian Government has formally engaged international organisations regarding opposition figures Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, who are reportedly seeking political asylum while fleeing an active national security investigation.
In an official press statement released today, August 20, 2026, Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba revealed that global agencies had assured Zambia that both men were being afforded due process and full protection of their fundamental human rights under international law.
Mr Musamba issued a stern warning to the public, stating that anyone found harbouring, assisting, or collaborating with the wanted leaders would be treated as an accessory after the fact and face severe criminal sanctions.
“In the event that a person of interest under the said ongoing investigations fails to avail themselves to the police… the applicable laws and proportionate measures will be taken in order to ensure that there is compliance with lawful requests or call-outs,” Mr Musamba warned.
According to law enforcement, official police call-outs have already been served through the legal counsel of Mr Mundubile, a leader in the Tonse-Pamodzi coalition and Mr Zulu who was his running mate in the just ended general elections.
The joint operation, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies, had reportedly been building a case for several years.
Police intended to question the two politicians over their alleged links to activities capable of undermining Zambia’s national stability.
Investigators disclosed that some of these illicit operations were allegedly conducted on properties owned, managed, or directly linked to the two opposition leaders.
The Police Service had urged citizens to cooperate with lawful summonses, adding that more individuals may be called in to provide valuable information as the high-stakes investigation unfolds.
