China Rejects US Sanctions Against Iran, Orders Companies Not to Comply

China has announced that it will “neither recognize nor implement” US sanctions targeting Iran, ordering Chinese companies not to comply with Washington’s measures against five Chinese refineries accused of purchasing Iranian oil.

China’s Ministry of Commerce condemned the US sanctions as “illegal and unilateral,” arguing that they violate international law and interfere with China’s legitimate economic and trade relations.

The move comes despite US President Donald Trump’s threat of a “total economic war” against countries continuing to trade with Tehran.

Beijing has made clear that it intends to maintain its economic relationship with Iran, signaling a direct challenge to Washington’s sanctions strategy and increasing the risk of a broader US–China confrontation over Iran’s oil exports and sanctions enforcement.
