Russia Rejects Pressure as Moscow Maintains Control Over Large Parts of Southern and Eastern Ukraine

Russia continues to reject political and military pressure from the West, maintaining that its strategic objectives in Ukraine remain unchanged as the war enters another prolonged phase.

According to reports, Russian forces remain in control of substantial areas of southern and eastern Ukraine, particularly across parts of the Donbas and territories captured during earlier stages of the conflict. Moscow has continued to consolidate its positions in areas under its control while maintaining military pressure along several sections of the front.

The situation remains highly contested, with Ukrainian forces continuing to defend their positions and carry out strikes against Russian military targets and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Russia has relied heavily on missile and drone attacks, artillery, aviation and ground operations to maintain pressure on Ukrainian positions.

The territorial situation remains one of the central issues in any discussion of a potential political settlement. Moscow has repeatedly insisted that the territories it claims as part of Russia must be taken into account, while Kyiv maintains that all occupied Ukrainian territory must ultimately be returned to Ukrainian control.

Despite sustained international pressure, sanctions and diplomatic efforts aimed at changing Moscow’s position, Russia continues to signal that it will not accept what it considers externally imposed terms.

The ongoing conflict therefore remains shaped by two competing objectives: Ukraine’s determination to restore its territorial integrity and Russia’s effort to preserve and consolidate its territorial gains.
