17 SUSPECTS IN MONGU CUSTODY CHARGED WITH RIOTOUS BEHAVIOUR

Police in Western Province have confirmed that 17 suspects detained at Mongu Correctional Facility have been charged with riotous behaviour and possession of offensive weapons



Western Province Commissioner of Police Godfrey Mwanza said the suspects were arrested in connection with the matter and remain in custody.

Mr Mwanza said the dockets have since been submitted to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal.



He explained that no date has yet been set for the suspects to appear in court because the prosecutorial process is still underway.

However, Mr Mwanza said the suspects are expected to appear before court once all necessary procedures are completed.



Those in custody include artists Moses Ng’andwe, popularly known as Chester Mopower, Felix Phiri, alias Felix Ndangeni Inshila, and comedian Winston Ngosa, popularly known as IDC Light Comedy, along with 14 others.

The Zambia Police Service, Western Province, wishes to provide an update on the matter involving 17 suspects who are currently in custody at Mongu Correctional Facility following their arrest.



The 17 suspects have been charged with the offences of Riotous Behaviour and Possession of Offensive Weapons.
The dockets relating to the matter have since been submitted to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal. Consequently, a specific date for the suspects’ appearance before court has not yet been set.



The suspects are, however, expected to appear before court as soon as all the necessary prosecutorial processes are completed.
