[ IN PICTURE] EFF PRESIDENT RAISES CONCERN OVER DETENTION OF PARTY MEMBERS
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) President Kasonde Mwenda has raised concerns over the continued detention of party members and artists in various police stations across Zambia.
Mwenda claims that 17 NRPUP members and artists remain detained in Mongu, while more than six NRPUP leaders are allegedly being held at Kabwata Police Station without appearing before court.
He further alleges that party members are also being detained in Central, Matero, Kaunda Square and Chelston, bringing the total number of EFF members reportedly in police custody in Lusaka to more than 107.
Mwenda has described the alleged prolonged detention without court proceedings as a violation of the law and has appealed to the government to ensure that due process is followed.
He has also called on members of the public to support those in police custody, claiming that detainees often lack basic necessities such as food, drinking water and tissue paper.
Mwenda urged citizens to provide assistance to detainees where possible, saying the police would not prevent families and supporters from bringing essential supplies.
He concluded by calling for solidarity among citizens and reaffirming his position that the law should take its course in all cases involving detained party members.
