Russian Drones Strike Shopping Centre in Kryvyi Rih
Russian drones struck a major shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, central Ukraine, on Friday, August 21, killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 100, according to Ukrainian officials. At least 22 children were among the injured.
The attack reportedly occurred in two waves. Ukrainian officials said a second strike hit the area while emergency personnel were already responding to the aftermath of the initial attack, raising concerns that rescuers were also deliberately placed at risk.
The strike caused significant damage to the shopping complex and triggered fires as emergency crews searched the site for casualties and survivors.
Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and has repeatedly been targeted during Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The reported casualty figures have continued to change as rescue operations progress. Later updates from Ukrainian authorities raised the toll to 15 killed and around 130 injured, including children.
