Massive Explosion Rocks Weapons Depot South of Misrata
A massive explosion has rocked a weapons and ammunition depot in the Al-Ghiran area south of Misrata, Libya.
The facility, reportedly associated with the Al-I’sar Battalion, is located near Al-Sakt prison. The initial blast triggered a series of secondary explosions involving rockets, artillery ammunition and tank rounds stored at the site.
Ammunition and debris were reportedly thrown into nearby residential areas and farms, causing panic among residents and reportedly damaging property.
Authorities closed surrounding roads and secured the area as emergency teams responded to the incident.
Initial reports indicated that no deaths or injuries had been recorded at local medical facilities at the time.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear. Authorities have not yet determined whether it resulted from an accident, technical failure or another factor.
