ETHIOPIA: Ethiopia Rejects Egypt’s “Distorted” Campaign Over Nile Dam
Ethiopia has pushed back against what it calls a renewed Egyptian campaign to misrepresent its position on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and its development of the Nile.
Addis Ababa said its use of the Nile is based on sovereign development rights and on securing shared benefits for the region.
The Nile is Africa’s longest river, flowing through 11 countries before emptying into the Mediterranean via Egypt.
The dispute between Ethiopia and Egypt over the dam has lasted more than a decade. Construction on the dam in Ethiopia began in April 2011, and it was officially inaugurated in September 2025.
