ELEVEN dogs rescued from the meat trade were brought to safety in Kabwe on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after police stopped a truck carrying them.
According to LAWS [Lusaka Animal Welfare Society], the Zambia Police Service intercepted the truck and contacted the Kabwe District Veterinary Office and Kabwe Animal Rescue, the first veterinary and animal welfare organizations on the scene. One of the original 12 dogs did not survive.
LAWS said it is caring for three of the rescued dogs. Partner organizations are caring for the remaining eight.
LAWS thanked the Zambia Police Service, Kabwe District Veterinary Office, Kabwe Animal Rescue, AARC, and Showgrounds Vet Clinic for their collaboration and response.
The organization is appealing for donations to cover the costs of food, veterinary care, vaccinations, and rehabilitation for the dogs in its care. Donations can be sent to the LAWS mobile money account: +260 766 568 771.
