Syria Seeks Path to Join Mecca Joint Defense Agreement

Syria is exploring ways to join the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, which currently brings together Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, according to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

The agreement is based on a collective-defense principle, under which an attack against one member would be treated as an attack against all participating countries.

Al-Shaibani said Damascus is looking into possible avenues for joining the framework, potentially marking a significant development in Syria’s regional security and defense relations.
