KENYA: No Degree Needed: IEBC Confirms Candidates Can Run For President, Governor And MP In 2027
Kenya’s electoral commission says candidates will not need a university degree to run for president, governor, or parliament in the 2027 election.
Speaking to local media, IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu said there is currently no degree requirement under the legal framework.
The position follows 2022 High Court rulings that struck down degree requirements for parliamentary, gubernatorial, and presidential candidates.
The rules could still change if new legislation is passed before the election.
Kenya is scheduled to hold its next general election in August 2027.
