IRAN: “WE HAVE NO REASON TO THINK” THE MECCA DEFENSE PACT TARGETS US
Iranian FM spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says Tehran does not believe the new pact involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey is aimed at Iran.
He argued that the participating states are Muslim countries and said regional governments have concluded that the United States’ main concern in the region is protecting what Tehran calls the “illegitimate interests” of Israel.
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey have said the alliance is not targeting any particular country.
The pact’s stated purpose and Iran’s interpretation are not the same thing.
Do you think this alliance will ease regional tensions—or eventually become part of the Iran security equation?
