HISTORIAN SAYS ZAMBIA MAY NO LONGER HOLD STRONG INTERNATIONAL DEMOCRATIC STANDING AFTER 2026 POLLS

Historian Dr. Euston Chiputa says Zambia may no longer hold its position among countries with a strong international democratic standing following events surrounding the 2026 general election.
Dr. Chiputa has cited a series of events surrounding the election, which raised concerns about the country’s democratic credentials.
He also pointed to the suspension of the counting and announcement of results nationwide, which he says raised questions and attracted significant public attention
Dr. Chiputa further highlighted the deployment of the military to the residence of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity-NRPUP-presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, where several of his party members were arrested and the killing of former Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya.
He has since urged Zambians to continue upholding peace as the country awaits the next constitutional processes, including the inauguration.
