HICHILEMA’S VICTORY WILL ALLOW ZAMBIA TO STABILIZE – NZOVU
UPND National Management Committee (NMC) member Collins Nzovu has said President Hakainde Hichilema’s re-election presents Zambia with an opportunity to achieve stability in leadership and sustain long-term development.
Mr Nzovu said frequent changes in government since the de•ath of former President Levy Mwanawasa had made it difficult for successive administrations to implement long-term policies and complete development programmes.
“It is extremely difficult to develop a country when leadership and policies change every few years,” Mr Nzovu said.
He said President Hichilema’s second term would allow the Government to consolidate policies introduced during his first term, particularly in education and economic management.
Mr Nzovu said the introduction of free education had increased demand for classrooms and teachers, creating an opportunity for the Government to expand infrastructure and recruitment.
He stated that continuity was important because a change in government could result in different priorities and policies, potentially disrupting ongoing programmes.
“President Hakainde Hichilema’s victory gives Zambia an opportunity to stabilize and have a leader who will complete his agenda for the country,” he said.
On the economy, Mr Nzovu said the President’s emphasis on fiscal discipline had contributed to stronger economic management and increased international reserves.
He compared Mr Hichilema’s approach to that of late President Mwanawasa, arguing that fiscal discipline could initially be unpopular but produce long-term benefits.
“His second term will allow him to build on the progress,” Mr Nzovu said.
Mr Nzovu also appealed to Zambians to reject political vio•lence and embrace peace, saying the country should not return to confrontational politics.
“Let us choose to move forward,” he stressed.
