POLICE RECOVER STOLEN ECZ LAPTOP IN MANDEVU FOLLOWING POST-ELECTION INVESTIGATIONS
Police have successfully recovered a laptop belonging to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) that was stolen following the August 13 election in Mandevu Constituency.
Deputy Inspector General of Police – Operations Fred Hamaamba announced the recovery during a briefing, noting that while the elections were largely peaceful, authorities recorded isolated incidents, including the theft of election materials in Mandevu.
According to Mr. Hamaamba, actionable information provided by members of the public allowed police to track down a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects. When officers intercepted the vehicle, the suspect managed to flee the scene by abandoning the car. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several items, including the stolen ECZ laptop.
Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities revealing that the vehicle involved a Honda Fit was displaying a fake registration number. Checks indicated that the registration number 7945 was originally registered to a truck rather than the hatchback used in the incident.
