BOTSWANA STEPS UP IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN — 52 FOREIGN NATIONALS ARRESTED
Botswana has intensified immigration enforcement in Gaborone, with police arresting 52 foreign nationals suspected of residing in the country without valid immigration documents.
The operation, carried out by Gaborone West Police, forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce Botswana’s immigration laws. Those arrested are expected to undergo immigration screening while authorities determine their legal status.
The latest operation follows an earlier Phase 4 operation, with authorities now conducting enforcement activities in Phase 2.
Police have indicated that similar operations will continue as Botswana tightens checks on immigration compliance.
Authorities are also investigating a separate case involving a man who allegedly presented a Botswana birth certificate while claiming Botswana citizenship, raising questions about the authenticity and circumstances surrounding his documents.
Botswana’s latest actions highlight a growing focus across the region on illegal immigration, documentation and national identity.
As Botswana tightens immigration enforcement, other Southern African countries could face similar pressure to strengthen their own border and immigration controls.
