THE family of former Cabinet minister Mutotwe Kafwaya has declined the government’s offer of a state funeral and burial, the Secretary to the Cabinet said Thursday.
In a statement, Patrick K. Kangwa said government had offered to accord Kafwaya the funeral and burial honours applicable to a former Cabinet minister.

Kangwa said Kafwaya served as Minister of Works and Supply from 2018 to 2019 and as Minister of Transport and Communications from 2019 to 2021.
“The family, however, respectfully declined the offer by government and opted to host a private funeral arrangement,” Kangwa said.
He asked the public to respect the family’s wishes.

Again an emotional decision. The offer came from the government not from HH or UPND. It was offered in good faith and in recognition of the office Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya held and the services he rendered.
