TRUCK DRIVER FLEES AS FISH WORTH OVER K1.3 MILLION VANISH IN TRANSIT
The Zambia Police Service has launched investigations into the alleged theft of 1,335 boxes of Horse Mackerel fish worth over K1.3 million while in transit from Namibia to Kasumbalesa in Chililabombwe
Copperbelt Division Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga says the consignment, weighing more than 26 tonnes, was being transported by a refrigerated truck driven by a Zimbabwean national.
Mr. Hamoonga says the driver stopped responding to calls from his employers after reaching the Kasumbalesa area on August 25th
The truck was later found abandoned near Petroda Filling Station, but the entire consignment was missing.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver allegedly exited Zambia through Chirundu One Stop Border Post at around 13:03 hours on August 26th.
Mr. Hamoonga says no arrests have been made and the stolen fish has not yet been recovered.
He says police have intensified investigations, working with immigration and other law enforcement agencies to trace the suspect and recover the consignment.
