EIGHT CHURCH MOTHER BODIES RECEIVED MUNDUBILE AND MAKEBI ZULU FROM THE UNITED NATIONS EARLIER TODAY
The Eight Church Mother Bodies — EFZ, CCZ, ZCCB, ICOZ, ACOC, CMML, SDA and NAC — have received Hon. Brian Mundubile and Hon. Makebi Zulu from the Office of the Special Assistant to the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN Resident Coordinator in Zambia.
In their role as a neutral third party, the Church Mother Bodies facilitated the handover of the two opposition leaders to their legal representatives, allowing the relevant legal processes concerning matters raised by the State to commence.
In a statement issued on 27 August 2026 at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the Church said its involvement was consistent with its historic ministry of peace-making, reconciliation, justice and the preservation of human dignity.
The Church called on the State to ensure that Mundubile and Zulu are treated humanely, with dignity and fairness, and that their rights are fully protected in accordance with due process and the rule of law.
The Church emphasized that its role is not to determine guilt or innocence or interfere with lawful institutions, but to help ensure that the transition takes place peacefully and responsibly.
The Eight Church Mother Bodies urged all parties to prioritize truth, justice, restraint, peace, unity and national stability.

STATEMENT BY THE EIGHT CHURCH MOTHER BODIES (EFZ, CCZ, ZCCB, ICOZ, ACOC, CMML, SDA, NAC) ON 27 AUGUST 2026 AT THE ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL OF THE HOLY CROSS
We, the Eight Church Mother Bodies, receive Hon. Brian Mundubile and Hon. Makebi Zulu from the Office of the Special Assistant to the United Nations Secretary-General and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zambia, in our limited but important role as a neutral Third Party, for onward handover to their legal representatives so that the due processes of law concerning matters raised by the State may commence.
The Church undertakes this role consistent with its biblical and historic ministry of peace-making, reconciliation, justice and the preservation of human dignity – “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9).
We are equally reminded that “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of [God’s] throne” (Psalm 89:14). These biblical principles call us both to pursue peace and to uphold justice, fairness and human dignity in moments of national sensitivity.
We appreciate the confidence of the United Nations, the trust extended by the State, and the acceptance by the two opposition leaders for the Church to facilitate this brief but critical transition.
As the legal processes now commence, we respectfully call upon the State, consistent with assurances given at the highest level, to ensure that the two leaders are treated humanely, with dignity, fairness, and full respect for due process and the rule of law.
Our role here is not to determine innocence or guilt, nor to interfere with the work of lawful institutions. It is to help ensure that this transition takes place peacefully, responsibly and with respect for all parties.
May truth, justice and restraint guide every step, and may all of us place Zambia’s continued peace, unity and stability above every other consideration.

If found guilty.. The reward of SIN is death.
This is a good beginning to a very difficult situation needing a lot of wisdom, restrain and civil minds. We thank God for the peaceful handing over of our fellow citizens. This is well appreciated and thank you to the Presiding President and the state institution for the humane treatment.
As frightening, tense and difficult all this is. It is important to take care that all manner of calmness is adhered to. We are all Zambians and hence we need to remember that. May the legal processes that we have placed our faith in be allowed to deal with such matters deal with it righteously and fairly.
We prayerfully await for the truth to be known. Let it be known that despite all these disagreements and in house fights, deep at the core of the heart we love all leaders and are interrelated due to inter marriages. We are one people.
We stand vigilant for the peace of our country which can not be compromised but equally for the families passing through a very difficult period due to the issues that have befallen them. That is our nature. We are Christians at heart and can not help it.
.We can have justice while loving and forgiving one anther all at the same time. No matter the outcome.
It’s some of these Church bodies who have been misleading Mundubile and Makebi Zulu due to their deep seated hatred for HH. During the Bill 7 debate and the eventual loss by the opposition, we saw them taking sides. Whatever they are doing now, they are just pretending. It’s better for government to keep a close watch on some of these so called Church bodies, they are a big liability and danger to our country. Instead of working with the government to unite the country, they are busy dividing it. They don’t add any value at all. The country is quickly sliding into moral degeneration because some of the same Clergy men have completely abandoned their priestly work for politics. Priests are not for politics, they are for pastoral work.
To me this is funny. We will never learn as people. We have very segregated laws and it hurts me. If these were ordinary guys in the line of fire, no church body party whatever would have come out to speak in their behalf. They would have been crucified by now, beaten and mistreated. They would have been considered extremely dangerous criminals who deserve all the punishment but here we are pleading for Mundubile and Makebi’s mercy like stupid people. Justice has to be fair to all citizens regardless of their socioeconomic standing. We cannot continue on this path of reconciliation reconciliation every day after committing such serious offences. No wonder Binwell Mpundu jumped ship and he is hiding somewhere not in Zambia. We need to put a STOP to this favouritism.
I would be very disappointed if the Catholic is a part to the eight church mother bodies. Every body knows about the Catholic/Tonse Alliance that unfortunately disastrously failed. This Church and it’s Bishops have no shame and looking at how events are unfolding now, I am not surprised as to how a certain church was said to have played major a role in the Rwanda genocide.
