WAMUNYIMA REMINDS MPS-ELECT OF FOUR CORE PARLIAMENTARY ROLES
Nalolo Member of Parliament-elect Imanga Wamunyima has reminded newly elected Members of Parliament that their mandate is anchored on four core constitutional roles.
Mr. Wamunyima said MPs are responsible for making laws, providing oversight over Government and public institutions, approving budgets and scrutinising public expenditure, as well as representing their constituents.
He said MPs must effectively debate, review, introduce and vote on proposed legislation while ensuring that public institutions, including parastatal companies, are held accountable.
“MPs monitor and scrutinise the Executive and public institutions,” Mr. Wamunyima said.
He further said Parliament has a responsibility to consider and appropriate public funds and scrutinise expenditure by both central and local government.
“MPs consider and appropriate public funds and scrutinise public expenditure,” he said.
Mr. Wamunyima also urged MPs to bring the concerns, grievances and development needs of their constituents into the national legislative and policy process.
“MPs lobby for improved livelihood for their people through available avenues,” he said.
