KAFWAYA FAMILY QUESTIONS WHY BODY WAS BROUGHT TO THE MORTUARY NAKED

The family of late former Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya has questioned why his body was brought to the mortuary without clothes and is demanding to know where his clothes and other belongings are.
Speaking in an interview with KBN TV News, Mr. Kafwaya’s brother Mukuka Busuma says the family was contacted to collect the body and proceed with the post-mortem at Maina Soko Military Hospital but found that it was naked.
Mr. Busuma says the family asked the facility to hand over the clothes, even if they were torn or had blood on them, but were only given Mr. Kafwaya’s wristwatch.
He says the family wants to know what authorities intend to do with the clothes and shoes, as relatives at home want to see what Mr. Kafwaya was wearing at the time of his death.
Mr. Busuma says the family has repeatedly sought answers from authorities but has not received a clear explanation and is now questioning who brought Mr. Kafwaya’s body to the mortuary and why it was brought without clothes.
He says the matter is raising further questions because other bodies at the mortuary are dressed and have information indicating who deposited them, while Mr. Kafwaya’s body was allegedly left naked without information on who brought it to the facility.
Mr. Busuma has called on the relevant authorities to urgently resolve the matter and provide the family with answers.
Speaking in an interview with KBN TV news from Maina Soko Military Hospital, he has further warned that continued delays could affect the condition of Mr. Kafwaya’s body and potentially delay the post-mortem.
Mr Busuma says the family has now decided not to proceed with the post-mortem until they get all answers to their questions.
He says the information surrounding the time of his death still remains unclear and that the information given to them by the facility does not match the information given by government.
He further disclosed that the Kafwaya family has decided to cancel the farewell church service which was scheduled for this afternoon at the Tabernacle of David Assembly City Mission Church due to the failure by authorities to release the late Mr Kafwaya’s clothes.
But when contacted for a comment by KBN TV news, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mambo Hamaundu refused to speak on the matter.
Meanwhile, government says it offered to accord the late Mr Kafwaya the funeral and burial honors applicable to a former Cabinet Minister but the family declined the offer and opted for a private funeral arrangement.
Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, in a statement, has therefore urged the public to respect the wishes of the family.-KBNTV
