NANDI-NDAITWAH CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ON RE-ELECTION

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election following Zambia’s August 13, 2026 general elections.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a congratulatory message, said Hichilema’s renewed mandate carried a responsibility to govern in the interests of all Zambians.

“The privilege of receiving the mandate of the people carries with it an equally profound responsibility to govern in the interests of all citizens,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

She stressed the need for the strengthening of democratic institutions and preservation of peace and national unity, saying democracy should go beyond the conduct of elections.

“Democracy is strengthened not only by the holding of elections, but by our collective commitment to protecting the institutions, values and freedoms that give those elections meaning,” she stated.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah commended Zambians for participating in the democratic process and exercising their right to determine the leadership and direction of their country.

She emphasized that the responsibility of safeguarding democracy should not be left to governments alone, but should involve political leaders, institutions, political parties and citizens.

“Political leaders, institutions, political parties and citizens alike carry a responsibility to ensure that electoral competition does not weaken national cohesion or disturb the peace upon which development and prosperity depend,” she said.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia and Zambia shared historic relations forged through the liberation struggles of Southern Africa.

“Namibia and Zambia share bonds that extend far beyond geography,” she stated.

She said Namibia was ready to work with Zambia to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, as well as economic development.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah further stressed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing unemployment, climate change, peace and security and economic development.

“Southern African nations must work together with greater determination to advance regional integration and create tangible opportunities for their citizens,” she said.

She reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to working with Zambia to promote peace, stability, democracy and sustainable development in Southern Africa.
