RUSSIA JUST DESTROYED 90 PERCENT OF UKRAINE’S FOOD STORAGE AND WINTER IS COMING
Ukraine’s agriculture minister has confirmed that Russian strikes on food warehouses have destroyed approximately 90 percent of the country’s storage capacity.
90 percent.
This is not a military target in any meaningful sense. Food storage facilities hold grain, seeds, and supplies that feed civilian populations. Destroying them does not stop tanks or missiles. It stops food from reaching people.
Ukraine is one of the world’s most important agricultural producers. Before this war it supplied grain to over 400 million people across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. That capacity has been systematically dismantled by Russian strikes on agricultural infrastructure throughout the conflict.
Now 90 percent of storage is gone.
Winter is approaching. Ukraine needs to store its harvest to feed its own population and to have anything left to export. Without storage facilities grain either rots in the field, gets sold immediately at whatever price is available, or disappears entirely from the supply chain.
The countries that depended on Ukrainian grain exports are watching this. Africa. The Middle East. Parts of Asia. All of them already paying higher food prices because of the war’s disruption to Ukrainian agricultural exports.
Destroying food warehouses is a weapon aimed not just at Ukraine but at every country that buys Ukrainian food.
Russia calls this a special military operation. Ukraine calls it a war of extermination against its people and economy.
When 90 percent of food storage is gone before winter arrives, the distinction between the two descriptions becomes very thin.
