LAVROV PRAISES CHINA’S ECONOMIC RISE
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has praised China’s growing economic power and described the pace of the country’s development as “highly impressive.”
In an interview with Russia’s RBC television channel published on August 28, 2026, Lavrov said China is now the world’s largest economy when measured by purchasing power parity (PPP), adding that this position is recognised by “virtually all.”
“China is the world’s largest economy by purchasing power parity, and the pace of its economic development is highly impressive,” Lavrov said.
The remarks come as Moscow and Beijing continue to deepen their economic and strategic partnership amid growing tensions with the United States and its Western allies.
Lavrov’s comments underline Russia’s increasingly close alignment with China and Moscow’s view that the global economic balance is shifting toward Asia.
