SEOUL BACKS TRUMP’S NORTH KOREA TALKS BUT FEARS BEING LEFT OUT
South Korea supports Donald Trump’s push to revive dialogue with North Korea. But it has one condition. Do not sideline Seoul.
National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said any renewed talks must produce real progress on North Korea’s nuclear issue. He also stressed that South Korea’s security posture must not be weakened.
Trump has been signalling his willingness to meet Kim Jong Un again. He has already cut back joint military drills with Seoul without prior discussion. That move rattled South Korea.
Wi said policy coordination between Seoul and Washington is more important than ever.
South Korea wants to be at the table. Not just a spectator.
Trump is chasing another summit with Kim. Seoul has seen this movie before. The last summits produced nothing.
Will this time be different, or is Seoul just waiting to be disappointed again.
