PETITIONING HH’s RE-ELECTION WOULD’VE BEEN A WASTE OF TIME – KAVINDELE
30th August 2026
FORMER vice-president Enock Kavindele says it would have been pointless for Brian Mundubile to petition President Hakainde Hichilema’s re-election, arguing that the massive votes President Hichilema garnered demonstrate citizens’ approval.
Kavindele says President Hichilema received more votes even in areas that didn’t give him votes in 2021, adding that citizens should now unite and work together for the betterment of the country.
NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile said he had rejected the presidential results and that his party would seek legal redress to challenge the election.
Mundubile said the NRPUP documented alleged irregularities relating to ballot security, transportation and handling of electoral materials, and alleged discrepancies between votes recorded at polling stations and figures subsequently announced.

Mr. Kavindele, it is not for you to decide whether Mr. Mundubile would have been wasting his time by petitioning the presidential election results. It is for the courts to have decided on the basis of the evidence he would have presented to the courts.
This opportunity was lost and there will always be a cloud hanging over the legitimacy of the result just like the post 2016 era after HH’s election petition was dismissed on flimsy grounds. The lock down on court premises countrywide made the situation worse as it was seen as a deliberate action to frustrate the logging of the election petition.
Mr. Mundubile’s petition should have been heard and the matter put to rest permanently.
