NEO SIMUTANYI SAYS AUGUST 13 ELECTION PETITIONS COULD UNDERMINE ELECTORAL CREDIBILITY

Political Analyst Dr. Neo Simutanyi says the rising number of election petitions following the August 13 general election could have an impact on the credibility of the entire electoral process.
Speaking to Phoenix News, Dr. Simutanyi noted that several losing candidates at parliamentary and mayoral level have filed petitions in the courts, indicating grievances that need to be addressed through the judicial system.
Dr. Simutanyi stated that the courts remain the appropriate avenue for candidates and political parties seeking to have alleged electoral irregularities examined and resolved.
He further stressed the need for relevant institutions to ensure that all legitimate electoral grievances are heard and determined in accordance with the law.
As of yesterday, 24 parliamentary petitions were filed in the Lusaka High Court alone.
