“RUSSIAN SKIES ARE BECOMING COMPLETELY DANGEROUS. THERE WILL BE DRONES.” — ZELENSKYY
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned airlines, insurers and foreign governments that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous as Ukrainian long-range drones continue operating across the country.
“Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, everyone who still uses key Russian airports: Russian skies are becoming completely dangerous,” Zelenskyy said.
He made one distinction unmistakably clear: Ukraine does not threaten civilian aircraft.
“Ukraine poses no threat to civil aviation as such—not to any civilian aircraft. It is simply that there will be drones in Russia’s skies, and this must be taken into account.”
For years, Ukrainian children have been forced to interrupt their education and descend into underground shelters because Russian missiles and drones are overhead. Some now attend schools built entirely below ground. Meanwhile, Russia expected its airports, businesses and daily life to continue comfortably as though the war existed only beyond its borders.
That imbalance is no longer accepted. Russia cannot wage an unrestricted aerial war against Ukrainian cities while expecting its own skies to remain peaceful, profitable and untouched.
“Although Russian authorities are not properly announcing it, Russian airspace will effectively be closing. The war started by Russia is closing its own skies,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Russia opened this war. Now its consequences are following Russians home.
