EGYPT UNDER SCRUTINY OVER POSSIBLE NUCLEAR AMBITIONS
All eyes are reportedly on Cairo amid growing speculation about Egypt’s potential long-term nuclear ambitions. While Egypt has publicly declared no intention to develop nuclear weapons and remains a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), some international observers have called for close monitoring of the country’s expanding nuclear program.
Egypt is currently building its first nuclear power plant at El-Dabaa in cooperation with Russia’s Rosatom, in a project estimated at around $30 billion.
Former Trump envoy Keith Kellogg previously warned that if Iran were to acquire a nuclear weapon, other regional powers, including Egypt, could potentially reconsider their strategic options and pursue similar capabilities.
