STATEMENT ON THE ATTACK ON THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
:Released by Hon. Sylvia, Tonse Alliance_
4th September, 2026  Lusaka, Zambia.

As Tonse Alliance, we have noted with deep concern the reported attack and insults directed at the Catholic Church by Mr. Mwaliteta.

The Catholic Church, and indeed all Churches in Zambia, have played a sacred role in our nation. They have been a voice for peace, for the poor, for truth, and for national unity. To attack the Church is to attack the moral conscience of our country.

We condemn, in the strongest terms, any form of attack, intimidation, or disrespect toward religious institutions. Zambia is a Christian nation. Our faith and our institutions of worship must be respected by all, regardless of political affiliation.

This comes at a time when our nation is already hurting.
We have just buried a leader who died in a gun shoot.
We have lost Hon. Mutenya.
Some of our leaders have been taken to prison.
And today, even as the courts are closed, we are witnessing a swearing in.

Before we have healed, before we have gotten justice, we cannot afford to now divide ourselves further by attacking the very institutions that bring us together.
:As Tonse Alliance we call for
:Respect for the Church and all religious institutions.
:National healing and dialogue so that no Zambian feels excluded.
:peace  and tolerance,in our political discourse.

Let us debate issues, not destroy the institutions that unite us.

We pray for our leaders, that God grants them wisdom, humility, and a heart to serve all Zambians.
We pray for Zambia, that peace may prevail.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Psalm 33:12
One Zambia, One Nation.
