UPND ALLIANCE SAYS CORRUPTION FIGHT REMAINS A PRIORITY IN SECOND TERM

UPND Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi says the fight against corruption under the UPND government remains among its priorities in the second term, despite the party manifesto appearing to be economically focused.
Commenting on concerns raised by transparency international Zambia that the UPND second term is not focused on the corruption fight, Mr. Milupi explained that while the UPND manifesto emphasizes economic growth, addressing corruption is still central to government’s agenda.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Milupi said government’s position is that anyone found involved in corruption or abuse of public resources, regardless of their position or political affiliation, should face the law without protection from the party, alliance or government.
He noted that the fight against corruption is difficult if left alone to the party in power and has urged members of the public who witness or are solicited to participate in corrupt activities to report such cases to law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Milupi also reiterated that government is committed to dealing with corruption involving individuals who held public office in the past, those currently serving in government, and any others who may engage in corrupt activities in the future.
