Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.
Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced that Mr Hassan died at about 08:00 on Monday, 7 September 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.
Ndejembi conveyed condolences to President Samia, her family, relatives and friends, as well as the people of Tanzania following the death.
Funeral arrangements are currently underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan largely maintained a private profile despite his wife occupying Tanzania’s highest political office.
