DO NOT INVOLVE US IN PARTISAN POLITICS, OUR ALLEGIANCE IS TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE – ZAMBIA ARMY
The Zambia Army has called on political players, commentators and social media users to exercise restraint when discussing the Defence Force and matters of national security.
Zambia Army Spokesperson Colonel, Sydney Mwewa, says the Army is concerned about attempts to draw it into political discourse through statements and narratives that misrepresent its constitutional mandate.
Colonel Mwewa says the Defence Force remains committed to defending Zambia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests, while operating in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic.
He says the Army will not be drawn into partisan politics, as its allegiance remains to Zambia and its people
Colonel Mwewa has also cautioned against the publication of false, defamatory, threatening or misleading statements concerning the Defence Force or its personnel, warning that such conduct may attract legal consequences.
He has urged all political actors and members of the media to avoid politicising the Defence Force or attributing political motives to its constitutional responsibilities.
Colonel Mwewa has reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and impartiality in preserving peace, security and stability in Zambia.
