RAMSTEIN: UKRAINE REQUESTS 300 PATRIOT INTERCEPTORS AHEAD OF WINTER
Nearly 50 countries gathered at Ramstein have been urged to rapidly strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of another potentially difficult winter.
Kyiv is requesting 300 Patriot interceptors from existing allied stockpiles, alongside 500 air-to-air missiles and an additional $2 billion to expand its drone capabilities.
Germany has already responded, pledging to provide PAC-2 Patriot missiles from Bundeswehr stocks and calling on other allies to contribute. The United Kingdom has also announced an additional $135 million to accelerate air-defense deliveries before winter.
Funding remains another major concern. Ukraine estimates its defense financing gap at around $27 billion, including resources needed to sustain its drone capabilities through 2027.
Kyiv also claims Russia is preparing to mobilize an additional 300,000 troops, suggesting Moscow may be preparing for a conflict that could continue for several more years.
The warning from Ramstein is clear: time is running out before winter. Ukrainian and Western officials fear Russia could intensify strikes against energy infrastructure, ports and civilian facilities.
For Kyiv, delays in delivering interceptors and financing air-defense systems could have a direct impact on Ukraine’s ability to protect its cities and population from the next wave of Russian attacks.
