ZAMBIA SIGNS 540,000 METRIC‑TONNE MAIZE EXPORT DEAL WITH KENYA

Government has signed an agreement with Kenya’s Baita Trading Limited for the export of 540,000 metric tonnes of Grade A, white non‑GMO maize, following Zambia’s bumper harvest of over 5.1 million metric tonnes.

Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Finance and Economic Development Siazongo Siakalenge said the surplus provides an opportunity to earn foreign exchange, support farmers and strengthen economic growth.

FRA Board Chairperson Suresh Desai said the deal reflects confidence in Zambia’s produce and aligns with Government’s ambition to raise maize production to 10 million metric tonnes per annum.

Baita Trading Limited Director Martin Kinoti welcomed the agreement, noting it will boost regional food security and strengthen bilateral ties. The maize will be moved in five tranches, with pricing based on prevailing market rates.
