HH DOES NOT RUN GOV’T OR PARTY BASED ON SOCIAL MEDIA COMMENTARY – STATEHOUSE
State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka says President Hakainde Hichilema does not run the government or the UPND based on commentary circulating on social media, but acts on facts and information presented to him.
The comments follow a series of allegations circulating on social media, in which former UPND ministers, Members of Parliament and others are being accused of working with the opposition Tonse Alliance.
Mr Hamasaka says social media is awash with falsehoods and disinformation, urging members of the public not to treat everything posted online as factual.
In an interview, Mr Hamasaka says if there is any truth to the claims circulating on social media, the matter will be dealt with through the appropriate channels.
He has, however, warned against acting on unverified information.
And UPND Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi says where a serving Member of Parliament is implicated in allegations of working with the opposition, it is the responsibility of the party leadership to follow up on the matter, conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action if necessary.
