MOZAMBIQUE PRAISES ZAMBIA FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS, CALLS FOR STRONGER SECURITY COOPERATION

The Mozambican government has congratulated the people of Zambia for conducting peaceful elections that resulted in the re-election of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mozambique’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Victor Domingos Canhemba Jr., said the re-election presents an opportunity to further strengthen defence and security relations between Zambia and Mozambique.

Speaking during the official opening of the Senior Officials Meeting of the 14th Mozambique-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security in Maputo, Canhemba expressed hope that President Hichilema’s re-election would help the two countries continue working together to maintain regional stability.

He also commended Zambians for conducting peaceful elections.

Meanwhile, Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni has called for enhanced efforts to combat transnational crime between Zambia and Mozambique

Nyoni, who is Co-Chairman of the Senior Officials Meeting, warned that unaddressed security challenges could jeopardise peace and called for stronger coordination between the two countries.

Lieutenant General Nyoni is leading the Zambian delegation at the meeting, which brings together senior defence and security officials from both nations.
