Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Government Reportedly Prepare Military Offensive Against Houthis
Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s internationally recognized government are reportedly preparing a military campaign against the Houthi movement, according to Saudi-backed Yemeni media.
The reports claim that the Houthis have seized large parts of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and areas surrounding the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The reported offensive aims to reverse the group’s territorial gains and weaken its control over key strategic locations.
According to the reports, the Houthis captured within three days territory they had failed to seize over the past 12 years. The group is now reportedly turning its attention toward Aden while adopting a more conciliatory political message, emphasizing Yemeni unity and the establishment of a functioning state.
Riyadh and the Yemeni government are said to be preparing for a new military campaign, although its timing, scope and potential outcome remain unclear
The reported offensive comes amid previous failures to maintain control over strategically important areas of Yemen.
