Kapiri cop shoots wife with AK-47, leaves her battling for life
A 26-YEAR-OLD woman of Kapiri Mposhi in Central Province is nursing gunshot wounds after her beloved husband opened fire at her, with a bullet piercing her body through the abdomen before exiting through her back.
Central Province Commanding Officer Lemekani Chirwa has identified the victim as Gladys Milala, 26, and the suspect as constable 30-year-old Jonathan Miyoba, both of East Park compound, in Kapiri.
Chirwa tells TV Yatu’s #Noel Iyombwa that, the shooting incident occurred this morning at around 02:10 hours, at Valley View Compound.
He says, yesterday, September 13, at around 19:00 hours, Constable Miyoba withdrew an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition for guard duties at CAMCO premises.
And that, at around 21:30 hours, he called his wife to ask where she was.
Chirwa says, the wife told Miyoba that she was at the market with her elder sister, Pecevia Milala, 36, collecting planks for their joint business.
On hearing this, Chirwa says his officer left his post and went to look for his wife at the market she said she was.
After searching the whole market the wife said she was, the 30-year-old constable proceeded to his wife’s sister’s house in Valley View, where he equally did not find her.
Not knowing what to do, Constable Miyoba waited for his dear wife until 02:00 hours this morning, when his beloved wife Gladys returned with her sister.
The Central Province Police Chief says an altercation ensued between the couple, during which Miyoba is alleged to have fired three rounds, one bullet going through his wife’s boy through the abdomen.
Chirwa says the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper abdomen.
He says, in the state of confusion, sister to the victim, Pecevia Milala managed to disarm the officer and kept the weapon in the house, before rushing the victim to the Hospital.
He says the weapon has since been handed to Police, at the shooting scene.
Chirwa shares that, police inspected the firearm and found only seven rounds of ammunition remaining as three rounds had been discharged.
He says the rifle has been secured at Kapiri Mposhi Police station.
Chirwa says officers who visited the victim at Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital observed that the bullet entered through the front of the abdomen and exited at the back.
He says due to her unstable condition, Milala has been referred to Kabwe Central Hospital for specialized treatment.
Chirwa tells TV Yatu that Miyoba has since been arrested for attempted murder.
