PARAMOUNT CHIEF CHITIMUKULU HAILS ZAMBIA ARMY FOR PRESERVING CULTURE AND NATIONAL HERITAGE

Paramount Chief Chiti Mukulu Kanyanta Manga II of the Bemba-speaking people has heaped praise on the  Zambia Army for its critical role in safeguarding not only the country’s territorial integrity but also its rich and treasured cultural heritage.

Speaking when he graced the  handover of the imposing 15-metre crocodile statue at Chikumanino Round-about to Kasama Municipal Council, the Mwinelubemba said the magnificent landmark marks a significant and historic milestone for Bemba land and Zambia as a whole, as it stands as a powerful reminder of the nation’s deep-rooted cultural values and national pride.

“Zambia Army’s unwavering commitment to national development in various aspects is highly commendable and must be supported as they execute their duties as mandated by law.

May I therefore urge those with intentions to tarnish the image of the military to refrain. See what they have done today, they have come through with their rare expertise, reminding us of who we are,” the traditional leader stressed.

The traditional leader expressed deep disappointment at the unprecedented levels of disrespect directed at traditional leaders and government officials on social media, urging Zambians to use the platforms responsibly to uphold the respect, unity and peace that Zambia is renowned for.

“Most of you who are fond of using social media to insult and disrespect people are very young compared to some of the elders you address. Let us remember, we are Zambians and we treasure respect for elders,” he said.

He further cautioned citizens to be wary of foreign  cultures that have infiltrated the country’s rich traditions, warning that if left unchecked, Zambia risks losing its unique identity which makes it admirable among other nations

And Brigadier General Charles Kunda described the landmark event as a true celebration of formidable partnership, visionary leadership, rich culture, community development and what can be achieved when government institutions work together towards a common goal.

“The initial idea was driven by the noble desire to establish a lasting landmark that would reflect the identity and heritage of ulubemba for many years to come,” Brig Gen Kunda said.

Brig Gen Kunda noted that the fruitful collaboration between Municipal Council, through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Zambia Army Northern Command Formation is a shining demonstration of what can be achieved when government institutions combine their strengths and resources.

“The magnificent Ng’wena statue carries deep cultural significance for the Bemba people. It is more than just a representation of a crocodile, but a sacred and important symbol associated with Bemba identity, history and heritage, and it features prominently in the cultural traditions of the Bemba people during the colourful Ukusefya Pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony,” Brig Gen Kunda said.

He has since passionately appealed to the Kasama Municipal Council and the residents of Kasama to jealously guard the iconic statue and protect it from vandalism.
