U.S. Reportedly Approves Transfer of 60,000 Heavy Bombs to Israel

The United States has reportedly approved the transfer of 60,000 heavy bombs to Israel, including weapons weighing around 907 kg (2,000 lbs) each, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

The reported shipment would include some of the most powerful conventional bombs in Western arsenals and could represent one of the largest transfers of heavy munitions from Washington to Israel.

The reported approval comes amid questions over whether the weapons transfer signals preparations for another phase of military operations in the Middle East. It remains unclear whether the shipment is connected to any planned Israeli offensive.

The reported transfer is also likely to draw renewed debate in the United States over the level of American weapons stocks available after extensive military support to Israel and other partners.

The timing comes ahead of the November 3, 2026 U.S. midterm elections, when control of both chambers of Congress will be contested. A change in congressional majorities could affect the political environment surrounding future U.S. arms transfers and military assistance to Israel.
