PAKISTAN CALLS FOR ACTIVATION OF MAKKAH DEFENSE PACT

Pakistan’s Defense Minister has called for the Makkah Defense Agreement to be put into effect, citing what he described as a sharp increase in Houthi attacks.

«“The time has come to implement the Makkah Agreement after the escalation of Houthi attacks,” he said.»

The statement comes amid growing regional tensions and follows recent condemnation of Houthi attacks by both Pakistan and Türkiye.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the Makkah Defense Agreement alongside Türkiye in August, establishing a framework for mutual defense cooperation.

Claims circulating online that Pakistan has received nearly $10 billion from Saudi Arabia this year in connection with defense commitments have not been independently verified.

The latest developments have raised questions over whether the Makkah agreement will move beyond political statements toward concrete military coordination, particularly as Houthi attacks continue to affect security around the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.
