United Party for National Development Serenje Constituency MP Bishop Friday Katombi has said President Hakainde Hichilema should be awarded internationally for introducing the 24-hour economy.

In a media statement today, Dr Katombi said the policy is a bold and transformative step for Zambia and Serenje.

He noted that the 24-hour economy will shift Serenje from time-restricted productivity to continuous value creation.

Dr Katombi advanced that the reform will unlock idle capacity and expand economic opportunity in Serenje.

He said that the policy will create jobs in retail, transport, logistics, security and hospitality in Serenje.

Dr Katombi affirmed that night shifts and flexible work arrangements will absorb youth unemployment in Serenje.

He emphasised that women and part-time workers in Serenje will benefit from the expanded labour market.

He added that the 24-hour economy will increase productivity and output growth beyond traditional eight-hour limits in Serenje.

Dr Katombi stated that continuous use of infrastructure and capital assets will reduce idle time in Serenje markets, transport systems and warehouses.

He observed that the model will boost the contribution of small and medium enterprises and the services sector to gross domestic product in Serenje.

Dr Katombi said the policy will also expand the taxable income base and support the formalisation of the informal sector in Serenje.

He said international recognition for President Hichilema would inspire other leaders to embrace round-the-clock economic development in districts such as Serenje.
