BREAKING: UPDF SUSPENDS MILITARY COOPERATION WITH TURKEY
Uganda has suspended all defence and military cooperation with Turkey effective immediately.
In a statement issued Saturday, September 19, UPDF Acting Director of Defence Public Information Col. Chris Magezi said the suspension will remain in force until “outstanding issues” concerning defence and military cooperation between the two countries are resolved.
The bombshell decision comes just a day after PLU supporters marched to the Turkish Embassy in Kampala, demanding the extradition of Ugandan critic Fred Lumbuye from Turkey
The September 18 protest followed growing pressure from Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his supporters over allegations concerning Lumbuye’s activities and wider concerns linked to Uganda’s interests in Somalia.
