🚨🇺🇸 Lockheed Martin Reveals New Details on the AIM-260 Air-to-Air Missile
Lockheed Martin has provided new information on the AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM), a next-generation air-to-air missile being developed for the U.S. military under a program that has remained largely classified.
The AIM-260 is designed to complement—and potentially replace some capabilities of—the AIM-120 AMRAAM, with greater range and improved performance compared with existing U.S. air-to-air missiles.
The missile is expected to be integrated with aircraft including the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, as well as other U.S. fighter platforms.
Lockheed Martin has also announced a framework agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense aimed at expanding and accelerating production capacity. The agreement does not yet represent a firm procurement order, and it does not specify a final number of missiles or a definitive delivery schedule.
Many technical details remain classified, including the missile’s exact range. Public estimates have suggested a range exceeding 120 miles (approximately 200 kilometers), although the figure has not been officially confirmed.
Australia has also been identified as the first announced foreign customer for the AIM-260, with the missile expected to support Australia’s F/A-18F Super Hornets and F-35s.
The AIM-260 is expected to strengthen U.S. and allied long-range air-to-air capabilities, particularly in scenarios where fighter aircraft must engage targets at extended distances.
