Russia Reinforces Oil Refineries With Anti-Drone Nets Amid Intensifying Ukrainian Strikes
Russian energy companies are reportedly installing protective nets over oil refinery structures to defend against long-range Ukrainian drones following repeated attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.
Footage released on September 20 shows nets being installed around a Bashneft refinery in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Other Russian refineries have reportedly deployed metal cages and container barriers around critical areas.
The defensive measures are designed to reduce the likelihood of drones reaching key infrastructure, particularly during low-altitude approaches.
However, the protective systems may not eliminate all vulnerabilities, as drone debris, heat and secondary impacts could still cause damage to facilities below.
